About
Winterfalle is the alt-folk brainchild of South London songwriter Sam Falle. Founded in the Island of Jersey, Sam's songs share contemporary folk tales about local life, history and culture. At first a solo project, Winterfalle also performs as a full ensemble (pictured) featuring Sam Falle on vocals, acoustic guitar, and keys, Todd MacDonald on electric guitar and vocals, Dom Main on cello and vocals and Jack Chown on drums. Winterfalle have a knack for turning folk lyricism about small places into anthems. Be it the stories of local seafarers in ‘Fisherman’s Friend’ or the inevitability of settling down in your 30's in ‘Ends The Same’, Sam shares intimate reflections on everyday life as life-affirming singalongs. Winterfalle first rose to prominence in a headline feature on the BBC Introducing website, with first singles 'I Know' and 'Deadbeat' earning airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio 1. In April 2023, Winterfalle collaborated with former Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell setting his heartbreaking poem 'Snowdrops' to music raising awareness of the human impact of the Ukraine War. In November 2023, Winterfalle released new record 'Out of the Sea', its haunting lead single 'Miles Off Course’ landing Record of the Week on BBC Introducing in the Channel Islands.
