About

Windwaker is an Aussie metalcore band named after the 2003 installment of the popular video game franchise Legend of Zelda. Their sound is rooted in big, earworm hooks and neck-snapping aggression, tailored to reach the nosebleed seats, as heard in acclaimed efforts like Love Language (2022) and Hyperviolence (2024). Founded in 2014 in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Windwaker's first incarnation featured vocalist Will King, bassist Indey Salvestro, drummer Chris Lalic, and guitarists Mark Mcghie and Will Eggleton. The band relocated to Melbourne in 2015 and began developing a strong regional following. Two years later, despite undergoing a series of personnel changes, they issued their debut EP, Fade, with a sophomore EP, Empire, appearing in 2019. <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Fearless+Records%22">Fearless Records</a> took notice and enthusiastically added Windwaker to its roster, delivering the band's full-length debut, 2022's Love Language, featuring a blazing, nu-metal-leaning cover of <a href="spotify:artist:26dSoYclwsYLMAKD3tpOr4">Britney Spears</a>' "Toxic." Co-founder Will King departed shortly after that LP's release, and the band coalesced around a lineup consisting of vocalist Liam Guinane, guitarist Justin Keurntjes, bassist Indey Salvestro, keyboardist Connor Robins, and drummer Chris Lalic. The hard-hitting Hyperviolence appeared two years later, as did the ancillary EP Enter the Wall, showcasing the band's tight musicianship and ability to craft fist-pumping choruses. An expanded edition of Hyperviolence featuring four new cuts arrived the following year. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
