About
Driven like wreckage after one of the storms of life, the five of Tonsils found each other in a shared love for the faux-pop song. They've been molding distilled odd-pop miniatures of dreamy yet snarky, slightly absurd streams of consciousness into ever evolving and fun live-sets that brought them to the Antifolk breedinggrounds of the lower east side of Manhattan in 2016 and to DIY clubs in the UK in 2019. 'On their debut ‘Tumbling’, followed by a tape release <a href="spotify:album:1ucdhkFxArhXFlnhvJe8zs" data-name="You Know What It Means">You Know What It Means</a> after some more line-up changes guitar, synths, bass and drums tumble over quirky lyrics. The sound of the band perfectly evokes the feeling of long summer days when you should be happy, but where boredom and melancholy get in the way. The band has a playful undertone that you can also find with <a href="spotify:artist:16eRpMNXSQ15wuJoeqguaB" data-name="The Flaming Lips">The Flaming Lips</a> or when <a href="spotify:artist:0UKfenbZb15sqhfPC6zbt3" data-name="DEVO">DEVO</a> strangely gets mixed with <a href="spotify:artist:6P7H3ai06vU1sGvdpBwDmE" data-name="Steely Dan">Steely Dan</a>. "Limburg is no longer the musical pubic region of Belgium and with Tonsils they have a nice band added again," writes music magazine DaMusic in 2015. Tonsils are Tom Vienne, Veronique Swennen, Wim Gijbels, Loes Gerits and Toon Vanotterdijk.
