Named as an homage to the 1980’s slasher movie genre, south coast UK power-pop quintet The Stayawakes deliver big hearted jams and sweet harmonies. Counterpointed by a visceral live energy and more volume than is strictly necessary, the band strive first and foremost to be a killer live act. Underpinned by friendships going back multiple decades, schoolyard rivals Andrew Ricks (vocals/guitar) and Peter Foulk (guitar) formed a lifelong bond over a piano and a Dire Straits cover. In 2001 they teamed up with Steven Hart (drums) to form melodic post-punk outfit Day of the Fight. With big ambitions and a really crap van they toured extensively through the noughties, until the wheels literally and metaphorically came off the bus. More recently, Jimmy Cooper (bass) and David Pryce (synth) joined to complete the line-up. This time-served connection is evident in the band’s performances, where intertwining melodies create a whole greater than the sum of its parts. In 2017 The Stayawakes set out to capture their debut album “Cats and Dogs / Living Together” with production help from Norwegian artist Kenneth Ishak (Beezewax), engineering by Tim Greaves (Southsea Sound) and mastering by Justin Francis (Rozwell Kid, Anti-Flag). The album is set for release in 2018 with much anticipation and high expectations.
