The Pennyfire

The Pennyfire is the culmination of three siblings’ musical projects, their dad, and a motorhome explosion. The journey began in Colorado during the summer of 2018, when brothers Jonas and Mark started working on material for an album. The project was put on hold when Jonas went back to college in the fall, but inspiration did not subside. That winter, the rest of the family moved to Alaska, driving up one of the most treacherous stretches of road in North America, the Alcan Highway. When COVID hit, Jonas came home from college and progress on the project continued with a few changes. Their sister Adia and their dad Travis joined, and the band took off writing songs. Choosing a memorable band name proved difficult, and several months went by before fate intervened. The “Penny Fire”, as the local fire department called it, was the result of a motorhome’s gas tank exploding in a heavily wooded area, less than a block away from the band’s log home. No one was hurt in the explosion, and so the name stuck. After all, who could forget that? One year and one relocation later The Pennyfire released their debut, Alcan, on August 6th, 2021.
