The Ginger Bakers
Sydney, NSW, Australia
About
Jamming as friends throughout high school, in late 2019 five gap-yearing boys each with unique musical backgrounds decided to finally get themselves in relative order to form a band - and they did so just in time for a global pandemic! Like the virus, they weren’t willing to let anything stop them from doing what they love. The Bakers gigged extensively throughout their home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and eventually the city - a period characterised by their time with initial frontman Keyo Rhodes (now leading his own project ‘Anamstone Jet’ in Melbourne). During this first year they also recorded an album ‘Live at the Hourglass’ - a collection of songs presenting their genre fluidity under four songwriters - Keyo, Flynn, Adam and Jimi. Since Keyo’s departure in early 2021, the Bakers’ sound has shifted from more rock’n’roll/psychedelic blues oriented songs to a more refined smorgasbord of sounds incorporating elements of (attempted) jazz, afrobeat, electronica, classical, ‘eastern’ and funk into their prog roots, also driven by the wild rhythmic energy of drummer Jasper Carter. This new era of bakedom will hopefully soon be established by an upcoming self-recorded album-in-the-making demonstrating their more pop influenced side (along with a potential name change!). From then on their plan is to get weirder and more experimental as they intend to play more broadly across the east coast and gain the resources necessary to reach the weirdness they so desire (more synths?!).
