tailgate '87
Inland Empire, California, United States
About
tailgate 87 is an IE based post hardcore band formed in 2023. Their material fuses the hopeful naivety of melodic emo, the boozed-up indifference of frat rock and the anxious grooves of dance punk. A stylistically elusive group, the band is comfortable with both 7 minute single-note ambient drones and sloppy, abrasive butt rock, with nods to Fugazi, Cake, Title Fight, Sleep, black midi, and Boris. Their music touches on themes of naive optimism, lost connections, juvenile humor, dad jokes, and dadaist blabbering. With confessional lyrics and unfocused anger, tailgate 87 utilizes emotional rawness as a tool for transcendence.
