About
Snowcuffs is a Chicago-based dream pop band, transcending the genre with razor-sharp hooks, entrancing vocals, and a bombastic rhythm section. Dueling guitars and hypnotic synths take the driver’s seat, producing a lush, multi-layered sound. Drawing influence from the likes of Alvvays, Beach House and Mazzy Star, while taking a slightly more experimental approach, their debut single “Uptown” starts in a jangly haze and concludes with fuzz-induced intensity. Neil Yodnane, who plays guitar and synth, is a co-founding member of Chicago shoegaze band Lightfoils. He began writing songs during the pandemic, and then linked up with Sarah Sterling — formerly a touring musician for pioneering shoegaze band Astrobrite — to found Snowcuffs in late 2022. With Sarah on bass, Mike Hoyt later joined on drums along with Weasel Elliot on guitar and synth. The four musicians quickly found they were a natural fit and the band began expanding on their sound. After a long search for the right singer and lyricist, the band found Stephanie Nikolas. Her strong, creative sense of melody and nuanced delivery made her a perfect fit for the music. Mostly left-handed, and frequently falling off their bikes, Snowcuffs are a bit distractible and injury-prone. They are survivors though, always resuming their chase of the clouds, shoulders like mended bendy-straws, moving forward until all the pedaling becomes effortless again.
