About

In the Summer of 2003, JJ Kuhn, Chris McMillin, Brent Shepard and Barry Woody rented a rehearsal space in Oklahoma City. Their friendships were formed during college art classes and restaurant jobs but ultimately forged by a love of music, particularly the indie rock boom of the 1990s. The rehearsal space became a gathering place for friends and like-minded musicians as line-ups would evolve over the next few years. By 2005 the group had a name, Good Morning Midnight. They wrote a handful of songs, self-recorded them and played live regularly. Brent moved to Tulsa in 2007 and the group split. The remaining members continued to write, record and perform around OKC eventually releasing an album as Western Residents, Sunlit Nights in 2013. After another successful run of live shows the group disbanded and members turned their focus to careers and family. Throughout this period, Barry continued to write new songs often recruiting JJ to play bass and help with structure and arrangement. They entered the studio and spent two years recording what would become Beam to a Better Time, released in 2018. A decade and a half after their first musical venture together, Barry and JJ reached out to Chris and Brent to learn the songs from the debut Shiny New Realm record. In January 2020, they released Shake Your Smile their first single together 17 years after they first played together.
