About
Friend Crush sonically bookmarks Ringpop's sound in a way they never have before. It contains 22 years of musical influence, shamelessly packed into 35 minutes of music. They wrote, self-recorded, and self-produced the record throughout the second half of their college careers. Mentor Brett Romnes of the Barbershop Studios mastered the project. "I think the music captures our maturation process in a very raw, revealing way," guitarist Charlie Burket states. "Starting your 20s is a leap of faith in nearly every way. You have to decide what information to trust, and make key decisions about who you want to be. Listening to our record makes me feel that process." The 11 songs of Friend Crush took them a little under three years to complete. The band wrote the first demo for "Do I Look Like Andrew Garfield?" in their college apartment around Christmas time of 2021. That song came out as the lead single in May of 2024, a week before they graduated from Berklee. After two more singles, they released the rest of the record independently on June 28th. "Friend Crush is about growing up," adds vocalist Jake Michne, "specifically that weird stage in life between childhood and adulthood. Lyrically it has been a way for me to be honest without actually saying anything out loud, it’s cathartic. I set out to capture the feeling of growing up, falling in love, and dealing with pain, in the most lighthearted yet honest way. That’s the picture I hope the record paints." Boston, MA
