About
PSAP is Bryce Vehrs and Andrew Skillern, two high school friends who set sail on a musical expedition in 2014. After self-releasing two instrumental EP’s to little fanfare, the pair was ready to call it quits to focus on other projects. That is, until they discovered something that would change their lives forever: midwest emo. “Bands like The Front Bottoms and Modern Baseball changed how we think about music,” recalls Skillern. “We didn’t know you could have a voice like ours and still sing in a band. It was like a lightbulb went off, suddenly there was so much possibility for PSAP that we had never explored.” Channeling this new energy, the duo recorded their debut album "Get Over Yourself," as well as an EP entitled "Vacation Cereal." In early 2020, they began work on their sophomore effort: a full length LP (partially) based on a shirt Skillern found at a Goodwill, and a fictional character the duo came up with in a writing session. In an attempt to distill their creative process, PSAP recorded the album following a strict set of rules: 1. No song will exceed a limit of 8 tracks. 2. Songs will be recorded with no more than 2 audio inputs at a time. 3. No idea is too stupid to try. 4. The album will be recorded in spare rooms rather than in a studio. 5. As much as is possible of every song will be written in the same session as it is recorded. Homecoming Queen, the double album that resulted from this nearly two year long experiment, is out now.
