With “No Good, All Worries”, Pretty Out display something that a lot of current bands have been lacking: confidence. They are neither trying to narcissistically kick in the door with “fuck you” bravado, nor are they trying to join the droves. The byproduct is a 5 song e.p. that effortlessly blends indie/grunge/garage sensibility with the enthusiasm and honesty of melodic punk and hardcore, and benefits from the maturity of seasoned musicians who have called Boston’s music scene home for decades. Thematically, “No Good, All Worries” is an account of the confusion, frustration, and futility of being an adult in a time of constant social and economic turmoil and trying to reconcile that reality with the inherent values of punk rock. However, where these songs shine is in their catchy, but never saccharine, celebration of resilience and patience. Simple structures and muted tones are shirked in favor of dynamic writing and colors as warm and bright as their name suggests. Pretty Out deliver songs that are both fun to dissect and easy to get lost in with a palpable sureness that can best be described in one word: “Cool”.
