About
Detroit's <a href="spotify:artist:5SQ85gKpL4IygurxTcGHgn" data-name="Paint Thinner">Paint Thinner</a>, a band formed from the wreckage of the city's premier art-damaged heavies (<a href="spotify:artist:0TixIi4MgTKnDRcPMFWjpA" data-name="Frustrations">Frustrations</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0iGsJvs34KZKz1GqWPPqhg" data-name="Human Eye">Human Eye</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6yRJaajQgTyHofnvGpDD7d" data-name="Terrible Twos">Terrible Twos</a>, Fontana), made their debut in 2015. Stationed somewhere between noise and punk, drinking from the tainted springs as celebrated guitar-manglers like <a href="spotify:artist:5UqTO8smerMvxHYA5xsXb6" data-name="Sonic Youth">Sonic Youth</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1AibLUHX4nyy6OVOV7o47C" data-name="Royal Trux">Royal Trux</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:0S7Zur2g8YhqlzqtlYStli" data-name="Television">Television</a> before them, the group sets anxiety and alienation to music, oscillating between discordance and melody. Their first album, <a href="spotify:album:3BvwJ43tNyemBqReK9pXad" data-name="The Sea of Pulp">The Sea of Pulp</a> (ŌBLĒK, 2019), is a dark blend of psychedelic Sturm und Drang brightened by bouts of guitar lyricism, its songs raising the things that scare us most, then battering them down into quietude with a sheer force of post-punk will.
