About

Blending a bright-leaning rhythm section with pop-punk trebles and dual vocalists delivering hooks reminiscent of early 2000’s summer, One True North is an alternative/pop-punk revival band from Perth, Western Australia. Forming originally as a studio band, the DIY duet consisting of Paul Ramondo (vocals) and Kane Baker (vocals & guitar) issued their first EP ‘Stuck on Rewind’ in 2020. The EP’s release amassed a humble yet engaged fan base across socials, with three of the EP’s songs being featured by Triple J Unearthed. Following the positive reception of the EP, One True North added Joel Alexander Sargent (bass) and Matt Bowen (drums) to their line-up and filmed the music video for their follow up single ‘Codependent’ (released in 2021). In late 2021, the band added Matt Sofoulis (lead guitar) to complete their lineup. “All my favourite pop punk bands rolled into something modern from Perth. I'm hearing Panic, Cartel, Yellowcard, Anberlin, Saosin…” – Tommy Faith, triple j Unearthed Executive Producer. “This band maxes out the emotion on ‘Compromise’. I thought maybe it was too much but they stick the landing with the huge energy.” & “Damn, ‘Cut Me Down’ really hits the gas with a vocally acrobatic frontman and energy to burn’. – Dave Ruby Howe, triple j Unearthed Music Director. “[Cut Me Down] is a 4:30 song that does not even feel one little bit like it goes for 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Great job.” – Max Quinn, triple j Product Manager.
