Murphy Kaye
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States
About
Milwaukee-based singer/songwriter/producer Murphy Kaye first broke onto the scene as lead singer of the indie pop band ah-ko. Murphy Kaye cut her teeth writing and releasing 2016’s “And You” and 2018’s “Everything is Okay.”, and making television and radio appearances as well as performing at Milwaukee PrideFest and with the likes of Vinyl Theater and Amanda Huff. Ah-ko made their national television debut when their song, “The One”, was featured on an episode of The CW’s All American. In 2020, Murphy Kaye took on a new venture releasing her soundtrack-worthy first single “Let Them Know”, an indie pop anthem celebrating friendship to critical acclaim. Murphy Kaye went on to release “Best Friend” and “Headlong” later that year, drawing comparisons to Best Coast, The Cranberries, and Lucy Dacus. In 2021, Murphy Kaye is confronting the anxiety of working without a writing partner by generating one new song every week for a calendar year, in addition to releasing several new, official singles. She also co-founded and actively collaborates with the Milwaukee artist collective Meltwater Pulse to develop and flesh out her songs. Murphy Kaye cites the group as one of the reasons her music “is only going to get better”. Murphy Kaye perfectly navigates the space between alternative, art rock, power pop, and indie while weaving in elements of new age, hip hop beats, and lush orchestral arrangements to elevate the music beyond its rock roots.
