Murdocks
Austin, Texas, United States
About
Murdocks formed in a dilapidated public storage facility in East Austin, TX in 2001. The band quickly signed to Hollywood’s now defunct Surprise Truck Records and began recording their unique breed of frantic, catchy, high-energy, punk-infused rock. Over an intense decade-plus long run Murdocks released 5 records (multiple of which charted on CMJ’s top 50) and hit the road, playing more than 200 shows in 40 states with artists like Cake, The War on Drugs, Ben Kweller Local H, and showcasing in official slots at festivals like SxSW, The Warped Tour and CMJ. Murdocks is fronted by songwriter Franklin Morris, the only permanent member across the band's entire 20+ year duration, though in 2006 bassist Kyle Robarge and David Thomas Jones filled out what would be the band's longest-running lineup — and contributed to the recording of the Roar EP, and the albums Distortionist and III. Murdocks went on hiatus in 2012. Morris and Robarge reformed the band in 2024 with guitarist Chris Patin and drummer Clellan Hyatt.
