About

Madeleine Alvaro is a fresh-off-the-press musician and songwriter based out of Grand Rapids, MI. As someone who loves music inspired by literature, her recent project, Levanter, is an EP inspired by the book, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
"Levanter" refers to a strong easterly wind in the Mediterranean region. To represent this wind, the symbol used for the album is the alchemy symbol for air. In the Alchemist, it is the levanter that incites a contemplation as to whether one will simply settle to live the life that they have grown accustomed to and comfortable in, or if one would dare to risk their stable life in order to live into their dream and calling.
"Fatima" is a simple story of love that depicts a powerful momentary encounter between two individuals in a desert oasis. In this moment, there is intense longing and desire, and yet, a knowledge that one’s purpose still lies ahead. Musically, the song swells with energy to reflect this longing and joy, but ends softly to portray the bittersweet reality of one who must leave their lover to fulfill their purpose.
"Weary Dreamer" depicts the despair of one who has abandoned everything to live into the purpose for which they were made, giving years of their life in pursuit of what remains an unrealized dream. It portrays the painful doubt that arises in coming face to face with the questions, “Was it all worth it? Did I waste my life? Do I give up? Or press on?”
