Luke Lively makes indie rock for the ones who look emotionally stable in group photos. His songs sit somewhere between heartbreak and hope, probably because he couldn’t afford therapy. Sonically: imagine Noah Kahan if he did pushups and John Mayer if he journaled more. He left his consulting job after four years of pretending spreadsheets were fulfilling. Instead, he followed the dream he wrote in his prayer journal next to a stick figure drawing of Red Rocks. A broken arm in football once got him cast as Peter Pan, which explains a lot. Now, he makes music for people who feel everything all the time but still show up to work. His voice is part coastal sun, part midwest ache, part “maybe God hasn’t totally given up on me yet.” If you’re holding it together in public and fake-arguing with your ex in the shower to your own unreleased song, welcome. The scars are singing now.
