About
Lava Kiss is a solo project of London (UK) based singer/songwriter, musician and producer Chris Willow. The name, Lava Kiss, was inspired by a <a href="spotify:artist:3W4xM5XYtUp4ifYYPVKVdk" data-name="Grandaddy">Grandaddy</a> song of the same title and Willow has been releasing music under the moniker since mid 2019. His debut album SUBMARINE DREAM has just been released this month (June 2020) and is an mellotron-tinged collection of ocean-related songs that would receive heavy rotation among the fictitious crew of the “R/V Belafonte”, as depicted in Wes Anderson’s film the <a href="spotify:album:05mpXOy7NNlc3oGqNathD6" data-name="The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou">The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou</a>. Lava Kiss’ debut single <a href="spotify:album:3xkjoNIr4Ew9lcXmdABcRN" data-name="Oceanarium">Oceanarium</a> combines a hazy-summer vibe akin to bands like <a href="spotify:artist:3S9sb8w9r1iojdrAL1soiU" data-name="Beatenberg">Beatenberg</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0oeUpvxWsC8bWS6SnpU8b9" data-name="The Naked And Famous">The Naked And Famous</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:67hb7towEyKvt5Z8Bx306c" data-name="Empire of the Sun">Empire of the Sun</a> with a polyrhythmic arrangement you could hear from the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:5BvJzeQpmsdsFp4HGUYUEx" data-name="Vampire Weekend">Vampire Weekend</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4MXUO7sVCaFgFjoTI5ox5c" data-name="Sufjan Stevens">Sufjan Stevens</a>. With his second single <a href="spotify:album:1KC6OdwMXdwgLMssug22MW" data-name="Swordfish">Swordfish</a> Willow showcased his penchant and knack for weaving a metaphorically rich narrative fuelled by cutting and addicting lyrics, topping the SoundCloud's "Hot & New: Indie Chart". Other recent releases include the dark and cooky <a href="spotify:artist:6vLlQYujOujIrm7zAKzEdG" data-name="Donovan">Donovan</a>-esque <a href="spotify:album:4pw5JXMDF5QhqjriV8FUUi" data-name="Octopus">Octopus</a> the rhythmic self-deprecating gospel stomp <a href="spotify:album:3uCmMfMcGWtVADGcfNSQAG" data-name="Walk on Water">Walk on Water</a>, and the fantastical epic <a href="spotify:album:76HRsdSzdb1EmcOzSqtpCO" data-name="Atlantis">Atlantis</a>. <a href="spotify:album:6WKmV3pTueM9ycMEbYZDXN" data-name="I Don't Want to See Anybody">I Don't Want to See Anybody</a>, his most personal song so far, gives contrast to the bigger productions that proceeded it with a stripped back and intimate arrangement.
