King Country
Waco, Texas, United States
About
While many associate psychedelia with the ebb & flow, chill vibes of a good hit, King Country offers an elevated experience with a bit more...dissociation. Hailing from Waco, a place with dark history, it’s no wonder their sound is described as “psychedelia-tinged doom garage rock on speed [...]” (Rock Philosopher, 2018). King Country’s live performances invoke visions of great beasts pursuing total destruction, while the depths of your mind reel from the chaos. An out-of-body experience is to be expected, and you may find yourself coerced to join the inevitable crowd of moshing fans. King Country is said to have formed out of necessity. At the time, Waco’s music scene consisted mostly of cover bands and gospel music. The irreverent trio sought to push those boundaries and open the minds of the locals to something different. With intense live performances and gritty analog recordings, King Country stands in the gap between psychedelic rock and garage punk. After maximizing on the local shows, the band ventured out to represent a new style of Waco; droning guitar, menacing bass grooves & blood-pumping drums. They proved to be an instant hit in places like Austin where the competition is stiff and plentiful. “For every fan of contagious, headbanging, bone-tingling, sweaty, messy, dirty, Texas psych rock, this is a must have album.” (Rock Philosopher, 2018). Available now on CD from Austin’s fresh-faced label Mas Music Records.
