Jellephant

About

Hailing from Arnhem, The Netherlands, Jelle Haagsma has been releasing music for years now. Some releases are filled with noisy garage- and indie rock, others drenched in dreamy shoegaze, the psychedelic ‘60s, or even small acoustic songs. Jellephant usually records his albums by himself, sometimes joined by guest musicians. This way of working allows him to be as productive as possible, sometimes releasing multiple albums a year. For example, the period from May 2018 to May 2019 saw the release of four albums: 'Skeletons', 'Dull Planet / Rotten Waves', 'Itch' and 'Pin', alongside a collection of demo recordings: ‘4-Track Demos’. While performing live, Jellephant used to be accompanied by his live band The Phantoms. Starting in 2012, members of Dino Kids, Christopher Walkman, Paracetamøl, The Garnals, Achterdochtig and other bands from Arnhem joined the various incarnations of Jellephant & The Phantoms. With the 2019-2022 line up (Jelle Haagsma, Christopher Kalkman, Guus van Tiem and Joey Pechler) two albums were recorded: 'Spills' and 'Always Down'. In 2023 Jellephant decided to quit performing with The Phantoms, and instead focus on writing, recording and releasing music on his own, still under the 'Jellephant' moniker, as well as his role as guitarist in The Garnals and his ambient, drone and tapeloop experiments with Nelson Crumble. In October 2024, the album 'Undead' was released.
