About
From Bristol UK, emerges the shimmering mirage that is Haukeli, the electronic pop artist with the contralto voice that deftly sweeps from tender one instant to pointed and commanding the next. Haukeli has developed her own brand of 'atelier pop,' drenched in a bombastic, playful orgy of lost and found synths. Her debut E.P 'Voyeur Vision' packages up 6 songs about 'a sequence of 'what-ifs' meeting in a bar to tell their version of the story'. It includes the 70s-tinged 'Oranges' - about a silicone sugar-daddy with lashings of rubbery bass and glistening dulcimers evoking a drive along an LA boulevard at night. Another standout includes 'Swathes of Blue Rayon' - a rumbling torch song about earthquakes and sexual awakening with a hypnotic beat. In 'Cellophane Heart', heavily quantised piano bass notes carry a chorus of defiance surging towards it's deflated, chaotic ending. With 'Oud' - just over one minute long and almost exactly as it was recorded in Janey's 'home studio', we are given a gem as precious as it's namesake wood. It's a record about longing, about reaching 30 and taking time to reflect on the formative years as they catch fire.' Of her upcoming album brazenly entitled 'Show Me the Cunny,' Haukeli says: 'I want this one to swing like a pendulum between joy and sorrow - one minute, cotton-candy, sacharine innocence, the next, the taste of yesterday's blood in the mouth.'
