About
Goodkat appear on the horizon: dark troubadours against a red-dusted evening. The soot, the brawls and the women of the long road are scribbled on crumpled, yellowing paper in their back pockets. With their self-proclaimed ‘dirty kitchen rock,' they have come to stir up something raucous in a smoky bar near you. Goodkat started as The Brothers Goodkat back in 2010 with brothers Rohann and Neels Smit on guitar and keys and, after some lineup changes and a few years hiatus, are now joined by Paul De Villiers and Du Toit Kemp on bass and drums. Influenced by the vocal grittiness of Josh Homme, the swagger-piano of Peter Cincotti, the Old West murder ballads of Murder by Death; they fuse these forces to create something that is truly their own. The music is a full-bodied, sexy, slam-down-your-whiskey-glass-for-another style of Rock ‘n’ Roll Blues with a funky, folkloric edge that keeps listeners captivated.
