About

Ghosts in the Valley is a post-punk power trio that manages to combine elements of DC punk, Midwest noise rock, and Pacific Northwest grunge without sounding quite like any of it. Reviews of their music often contain adjectives like “angular”, “jagged”, “crunchy”, along with verbs like “chugging” and “thundering” – all apt descriptors. Never pretty, although sometimes exhibiting melodic tendencies, GITV Specializes in 3-minute songs that cruise along on powerful bass lines, thumping drums, and a healthy dose of power chords. These elements lead to comparisons to bands like Fugazi, Shellac, fIREHOSE, and Mission Of Burma. The band openly cops to all these influences. Forming in late 2008, bassist Sam Pinola, Guitar/Vocalist Scotty Why and drummer Shawn Womer self-produced 2 EPs and a full length album over the next two years. In March of 2011, they travelled to Chicago to record their second album "Clockpunchers" with veteran indie engineer Steve Albini (Pixies, Nirvana, Silkworm). However the album release was delayed a full year due to the abrupt departure of Womer. With replacement drummer Alex Millard, they began tracking their 3rd album in 2013 but took a hiatus when both Why and Millard each became parents. No release date has been set yet for the forthcoming record. However, all the three members still collaborate in the band Black Friday Death Count.
