Flying Widows
Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil
About
A newcomer from Minas Gerais, Brazil, Flying Widows are a power rock trio that incorporates elements of blues, punk, grunge and stoner, and presents a repertoire with lyrics in English. Formed by Lucas Gomes (vocals and guitar), Fred Sasso (bass) and Saulo Ferrari (drums) the trio's music has a solid rock base mixed with a variety of genres, including jazz and oriental music. The trio's influences are multiple, ranging from the romantic-symbolist images of Jim Morrison and The Doors to the metallic sound of stoner rock, and Nirvana and The White Stripes, among others. Jimi Hendrix's guitar, John Bonham's (Led Zeppelin) drums and Brazilian rhythms are also part of the list of references. When playing live, they usually add to their original repertoire, covers of songs by artists and bands such as The Velvet Underground, Tom Waits, Jimi Hendrix and Beatles. The Flying Widows trio originates from the capital of Minas Gerais, but also intends to conquer stages and digital platforms around the world, a path travelled by the band Sepultura, also from Belo Horizonte, 30 years ago. Lucas considers that the lyrics in English, the heavy sound and the absorption of genres – the band's main characteristics – can be assimilated by rock audiences around the world. “And with the facilities offered by digital technology, songs can circulate over the internet and reach a wider audience, in several countries”, assessed the guitarist.
