About
Ernest Gladwell is the lead actor and soundtrack composer of the canceled 1988 coming-of-age dramedy Violet Heights. Violet Heights never saw a major theatrical release due to a lawsuit from a rival studio for purported intellectual property infringement. Lost for over 30 years, a sharpie-marked cassette copy of the Violet Heights soundtrack was recently unearthed at a public library in Evanston, Illinois and brought to the attention of the music publisher “Mourning Dove”. While the film itself may have been unremarkable, its soundtrack is a hidden treasure. Written, recorded, and produced solely by Ernest Gladwell, the soundtrack serves as an encapsulation of some of the era’s most winning sonic qualities. Incorporating a variety of influences from the new wave and rock scenes of the 80’s (The Cure, Kate Bush, The Clash), Violet Heights is packed with driving beats, layered guitars, lush strings, and memorable vocal hooks. If you’re looking for a sugary score to your summer drives, look no further than Violet Heights. To learn more about Ernest and the film, go to mourning-dove.com.
