Ditzy Spells is the musical identity of Sacramento-based singer-songwriter Bailey Zindel. Zindel, A California native, has been writing for over half her life, drawing always on experiences of detachment and loneliness, with ever-increasing clarity as she's explored her own identity and the nuances of existing and creating as a transgender woman. No stranger to loud, emotional guitar-driven outpourings, Zindel released her first LP under the name Hi, Mom! in January 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zindel spent time in the mountains of Grass Valley, CA with producer Joshua Unitt, working on what would become the foundation for Ditzy Spells. Of the project, she says "I've always been working towards something that can contain the full scope of my creative ideas. I love to write loud rock songs, but I also gravitate deeply towards folk, americana, indie and emo stuff and I needed an outlet that didn't feel limiting. I needed something that felt like me, all of me - not a construct." Ditzy Spells' first single, Foreign Airports, released August 2024, draws on 90s / 2000s alt rock just as heavily as it draws on country and heartland emo - and it's only a small fragment of the whole to come.
