About
Cowpoke is Raf Sanchez's third musical project, trading the thumping synths of Pikoe and Telecaster crunch of Hunting Stories for a more intimate, unplugged sound. He recorded his debut EP in 2017 in his New York City bedroom, accompanied by the hum of a nearby air conditioner and distant shouts from the streets outside. After years of keeping the project under wraps, he decided to release and pursue it full time. He shipped the tracks off to Calvin Lauber (Julien Baker) to mix and master the EP. With enigmatic, heartfelt lyrics, the three-song self-titled EP is set for release in early 2021 through CEN/The Orchard. The first single, Lasso, premieres December 4th, 2020. Lasso, comparable to the delicate sounds of Sufjan Stevens' Carrie and Lowell and For Emma days of Bon Iver, combines watery piano and low-fi vocals. Minimalist and honest, the track ends with a wall of ambient sound, giving listeners a sneak peek of the exposed musicianship present through the rest of Cowpoke's first self-titled EP. Cowpoke’s full three-song EP is set for release in early 2021.
