Condado

About

Condado is a rock band from North Carolina. Members include Alberto “Birdie” Velazquez (guitar/vocals), Joshua Reid (guitar/vocals), Javan Trinidad (bass/vocals), and Anunt Singh (drums). Naming the band “Condado” (the Spanish word for county) is a reminder of the rural/suburban locations in which the members grew up - places usually lacking a supportive music scene and/or diversity. It's a reminder that pursuing their individual and collective dreams of making music is possible regardless of where they're from or who they are. Following the 2022 re-recorded discography release, 2023 brings the band’s second LP, “BUTTON UP.” BUTTON UP is an album demonstrating the first fully collaborative writing/production with the band’s current lineup. The track list opens with ferocious emotions of frustration towards not being able to seek justice/revenge for a friend, “gifted kid burnout,” and work life balance. The middle of the album expands upon feelings of loneliness while navigating relationships, both romantic and familiar, that may be best to let go. The album then plummets and closes with a dark trilogy of songs that personify things like despair, addiction, and refusing to entertain anything that isn’t good news. This rollercoaster of emotions is enveloped in some of the band’s most fun riffs and rhythms to date, and delivered in the familiar punchy sound that makes you want to sing and dance the pain away.
