About
Coda Chroma is an award-winning songwriter from Ballarat, Victoria, and is described as “one of the most innovative and noteworthy musicians in Australia." Coda Chroma creates music that sways between cinematic folk and baroque pop, with otherworldly harmonies, honest and existential lyrics, suspended in deeply nuanced production. Coda Chroma's 2024 album LUMINOUS AS IT IS takes its name from a line in Mary Oliver's poem "Summer Morning" and is a snapshot in time of Kate's perpetual songwriting practice and her deep connection to nature. The album is steeped in themes of consumerism, environmentalism, friendship, and death, expressed through Coda Chroma's signature poetic, abstract lens. "Like the spiral on a shell or tendrils on a feather, Coda Chroma's songs are so perfectly formed and so deeply rooted in nature that all you can do is let the beauty of them wash over you." - Kate Kingsmill, 3RRR FM (2024) A companion piece to Coda Chroma's 2023 LP release Dreamself, LUMINOUS AS IT IS features nylon string guitars, vintage synths, and compelling vocal melodies. Although the songs move through a range of musical genres including jazz, pop, and psychedelia this album is undeniably the most folky Coda record so far. Rated in Top 5 albums of 2024 on Melbourne's 3RRR FM, LUMINOUS AS IT IS and charted across community and college radio in Australia and the U.S. "The whole album is absolutely brilliant" - Jason Crane 106.1WCNR FM, Charlottesville Virginia (2024)
