About

Based in São João del Rei, a charming colonial town in Brazil with centuries worth of history, Churrus is inspired by the mountains and lively multicultural scene brought by the boiler plate of immigration in their region (Italians, Portuguese, Middle Easterners). Churrus began in 2004 when Tulio Panzera started writing and performing dream pop songs with English friends in Bath (UK) during his PhD. In 2007, the debut album was released by Midsummer Madness Records. Churrus played in several festivals, being a support band for J Mascis and other great artists. Sustainable explores the concept of sustainability, involving the interconnection between our environment, economy, and society. It marks a new phase of the band, which has dealt with geographical barriers when Luís Couto moved to Stockholm. To cover his absence, Rafa Carvalho (Sliced Hearts) was recruited to become a permanent member. This is not the first time Churrus has dealt with distance. The band has historically had to overcome intermunicipal and intercontinental distances, especially when Túlio Panzera, founder of the band, spent more than one season in the UK for academic projects. However, its members never stopped the creative process. With the presence of veterans Matheus Lopes (guitar, vocals), Paulo Filipe Souza (drums), and Igor Monteiro (bass), the group composed and recorded the new album in a slow and organic process, facilitated by the conveniences of a home studio both in Brazil and Stockholm.
