About

Hailing from Queens, New York, Career Day bill themselves as “Emo-Punk for the End Times,” and that combination comes with the exact type of energy we desperately need right now. For all their pratfalls and stereotypes, emo and pop-punk have at least proven adept at making hard topics palatable, so why not take that same approach and use it to tackle more important things happening in the world? Classism, racism, climate change, corporate greed, and abject cruelty have all been left to fester; meanwhile, we’ve found ourselves forced further under the boot of capitalism, isolation, and divisiveness of the two-party system. Throughout the band’s full-length, Where We’ve Always Been, and upcoming EP, I’ll Always Be This, Career Day tackle these realities head-on with heart-on-sleeve lyricism and charged-up power chord energy. On any given song, you can hear strains of powerhouse rock bands like Blink 182 and Motion City Soundtrack, but vocalist Desmond Zantua brings a perspective that feels urgent and underserved in this style of music. Backed by Jacob Cutler on guitar, Robbie Levin on bass, and Ryan Maguire on drums, these four are ready to charge headfirst into the real stuff. The only question is whether or not you’ll be by their side. – Taylor Grimes
