About

Since 2014, Brat Sounds has been writing, producing and recording tongue-in-cheek slacker rock that examines the absurdity of the human condition. A quintessential Midwestern rock band, all four members are Wisconsin natives with strong ties to Milwaukee’s creative community. While they’re inspired by artists like Weezer, Tom Petty and Elliot Smith, their eclectic sound can be hard to pinpoint. 88.9 Radio Milwaukee describes the band as “power pop punk rock… that bears it all” while Milwaukee Record says their sound is “snarky but sentimental… frantic and fuzzed out.” Frontman Scott Cary is an adventurous producer who enjoys experimenting in the studio. Whenever possible, Cary likes to embrace analog technology to create Brat Sound’s warm, nostalgic tone. The band’s EP “Dust Covers” was recorded on a vintage Panasonic tape recorder, and the corresponding music videos were shot on a handheld Flip Video Camera from 2006. The band has recorded four full length albums. Their newest, Nothing, touches on topics like climate anxiety, social media and income inequality.
