About

It all started in San Francisco in 2009. Everything that would become Black Flamingo converged up there. It was Halloween. Founding members Kimi Recor (DRÆMINGS) and Ammo Bankoff (Brass Box) met at a party and that’s the night that old Hank Abernathy swears that he started seeing a black cat prowling across the way and the wind started whispering over the Los Angeles River. Kimi and Ammo packed up and settled down in a quaint cottage in Frog Town called the Dollhouse. And that’s when the magickal signs started spreading. The duo lured producer Ed Garro (UFO!) and dear friend and guitarist Christopher Vick (DRÆMINGS) to help with their 2010 self-titled debut. After eight days locked in the little house, and eight days of ashless fires in the hills, Black Flamingo emerged from the abandoned banks of the L.A. River with the creation of their trademark Caribbean-infused “tropical goth” sound. Their cover of Ace of Base's “All That She Wants” and a new batch of originals were all penned in a matter of a week and quickly drew the attention of wayfarers and troubadours alike. That’s when the birds started singing, and everyone heard a different song. Which brings us to the summer of 2018. It’s unseasonably warm in Los Angeles, there is an undercurrent of magick in the air, from the shores of the Pacific all the way back to Echo Park Lake, and Black Flamingo is back with an as-yet-unreleased EP, Living Ghost.
