About
The sound of the sun - purple, orange and red - cresting over the brown, tree-spotted hills. The voice of the beams, pure and forlorn, another day at work at this. What beauty can swirl down the drain, what lust and love can mimic clouds encircling silent, invisible wishes. The music of the Pacific Northwest dream (nightmare) pop band, Beatrix Sky, is the stuff that shoots the starting gun, the race for your heart and gut to sink low and wallow before the inevitable up-rise again. It’s overly facile to compare Beatrix Sky, which is comprised of vocalist Beatrix Hauth, guitarist Cosmo Mailhot to the “Video Games” queen, Lana Del Rey. But it’s also somewhat inevitable. C’est la vie. While Beatrix Sky carries itself in that same black leather jacket, studded with silver bullets manner, in a very clear way, the band is also rather different, more poignant. Sharper in its understanding of goopy midnights. Beatrix Sky, which has released an acclaimed collection of singles, LPs and EPs, has earned radio play from the famed station, KEXP 90.3 FM, and praise from the long-running music outlet Obscure Sound, along with Ever Out Seattle and The Weekly Volcano. Songs like “Anthem for the unemployed” and “Your Fool” showcase the bands' knack for knowing the burn of the scraped knee as well as the singe of resilience as one gets back up on their feet to sing again.
