About
NYC based heavy rock power trio BANTAM is back with their new single, 'YO-YO' released in October 2022. BANTAM left an indelible mark in the indie and hard rock scene from years 2002-2006. Guitarist & singer Gina Volpe decided it was time to branch out on her own after touring and recording throughout the 90's with her first band the legendary Lunachicks. Volpe teamed up with drummer Pete Asarisi, her fellow bandmate from the house band of famed weekly NYC Rock n Roll Drag party “Squeezebox.” Joining them initially was bassist George Porforis of NYC’s Heroine Sheiks who was then replaced by Doug Oosterhouse, best known for his signature mammoth bass sound. With the lineup cemented the trio went in to record their debut self titled and critically acclaimed 2002 LP, “BANTAM.” Touring the U.S. BANTAM supported notable bands such as The Eagles of Death Metal, Nashville Pussy and High On Fire. BANTAM’s 2005 sophomore release, “Suicide Tourist” shows an even more fully realized vision of composition and exploration for the trio with songs that span a wide range of raw emotion and blunt aggression. The Village Voice raves,“... Marrying brute force with bewitching melodies, the songs drop like an anvil-a sexy anvil…” The trio disbanded in 2006 but reunited in 2022 and released their latest single, "YO-YO." Gina Volpe is still active as a solo artist with new releases scheduled for 2023. Pete has invented Tripstick, a tool for drummers.
