About

AEMBA is the musical brainchild of the Greek/German singer, multi-instrumentalist and modern renaissance man Michael Alexis Ulmer and the Italian chef and producer Alessio Benetazzo. The bandmates met as adolescents in Germany, becoming fast friends through their love of music and their desire to create art from their shared experience as mediterranean transplants under the grey German sky. Before the duo had any recordings, or even a band name, they were performing their greco-roman synthesis of Japanese City-Pop and Melancholic Disco in the dive bars and basements of Berlin’s underbelly. As fate would have it, the world famous soccer player David Beckham saw them perform live and wanted to share their music with the world. Without even a band name or recording to give him, they realised they would have to do better if they were going to “bring our little bit of sunshine and warmth to the dreary German weather.” From the ashes of missed opportunity, AEMBA was born. Now, with Michael permanently based in Athens, Greece, AEMBA is bringing its Nu-Disco cocktail of Mediterranean Funk-Pop and modern sensibility to stories of love, missed opportunities, and summer life under the Mediterranean sun. In 2023, they debuted with "Louise", followed by their 2024 album "Sketches of Life" under Mellowsophy Music. In 2025, they return with "Wabi Sabi Magic", the lead single and title track of their next album.
